YouTube.com - BEAUTIFUL KAHANA 03
Comments: This is a very popular Hawaiian song on steel guitar, called BEAUTIFUL KAHANA. I'm playing this particular song on a 24" long scale aluminum Frypan lap steel. I use my pedal steel bar (which is bigger than my lap steel bar), since the frets are slightly farther apart, to do bar slants. The tuning is C6th. My amp is a Princeton Reverb, with 7 tubes and a 10" speaker. I love the old tube amps. I enjoy watching the glowing tubes in back. My Frypan has the original stock pickup from Fuzzy steel guitars in Japan. I love it just as is, and am glad I didn't change it out as some steelers say to do. YouTube.com - Lani McIntire and His Orchestra: Beautiful Kahana - Royale, LP 57, 1940s
Comments: Lani McIntire and His Orchestra perform "Beautiful Kahana" from the 10" LP, "Native Hawaiian Songs and Hulas" (Royale, LP 57), issued I believe in the late 1940s. This work was composed by Sam Koki. Lani McIntire sings in this rendition (beginning at 1:10). The "Royale" label was founded in the late 1930s by Eli Oberstein (1901-1960). Details about Oberstein can be reviewed here: www.donaldclarkemusicbox.com

YouTube.com - Beautiful Kahana
Comments: Kimo Alama Keaulana, the late Uncle Joe Keaulana, and friends sing a classic traditional Hawaiian mele (song), at the home of Naalei (lady with hat) and Keoki Liana. Also seen: Dougie and Joan Keaulana, Alika Buchanan, Lanihuli Lee and Pahukoa Morse. Singing and playing off-camera: Noe Kimi Buchanan. Waimea, Hawai'i Island, November 2004. Kimo says "Beautiful Kahana" was sung by Pahukoa and twin sister Pua Rogers when then performed together. Both have now passed on.
