Cooks voyages, c.1780s. This spectacular feather lei hulu is wili or tied individually to a central cord in the style of traditional Hawaiian lei making. It is hand-stitched by Boris Kekaiuluikahikina Huang, an apprentice of renowned Hawaii lei master Auntie Mary Lou Kekuewa. Boris painstakingly handcrafts Hawaiian feather leis at his home in Honolulu, Hawaii. He creates his own lei hulu patterns using feathers from different birds (such as goose, pheasant, duck, peacock, etc.).
