ʻO kou leo i ka makani a ke aloha

Hui:
Lei kaunaʻoa o Lānaʻi
I ka wehi o ka ʻāina nei
Hanohano wale no ʻoe
Lei ana i ka ua noe
Lei Kōʻele i ka ua
Hoapili o Maunalei
Huapala o Keōmuku
Ke aloha o Koloiki

Aloha kuʻu home ʻo Lānaʻi kʻiekiʻe
ʻOluʻolu wale nō ka wai o ke ola
ʻIke au i ka nani o ke Akua mana loa
Noho ana i ka poli o nā ʻōiwi

Kōʻele in the calm of the drizzling rain
I have seen your beauty
Your gentle eyes in the far uplands
Your voice in the wind of love

Chorus:
Kaunaʻoa lei of Lānaʻi
In the adornment of the land here
How glorious you are
Wearing the misty rain
Kōʻele wears the rain
Companion of Maunalei
Sweetheart of Keōmuku
The love of Koloiki

Beloved is my home of lofty Lānaʻi
So comforting is the water of life
I see the glory of the all powerful God
Dwelling in the heart of the native sons

Source: Kōʻele and Keōmuku are in central Lānaʻi. Koloiki ridge and Maunalei (lei mountain) are both located in northeast Lānaʻi. Clouds encirling the peak of Maunalei may have resembled a lei around the mountain.
